For my trip to Europe, I wanted to visit as many places as possible. Therefore, I want to minimize my travel expenses. Today, let me share some tips on how to travel on a budget with you. First, let's talk about Spain.

Of course, we did try the authentic paella and tortilla de patatas. They were riquisimas but also no baratas in price. Por suerte, we found a way to have a decent but cheaper dinner. Where did we go? The local supermarket.
We walked through the store to see what we could have, something local and affordable. We were amazed by the nice packaging of these microwave paella and tortilla. As I remember, the paella was €2.5, and €2 for the tortilla. We were afraid that we wouldn't feel full for just those, we bought 2 cup noodles as well, €1.5 each. So it was only €5 for all the food. Pretty economico, no? However, we didn't have high expectations on them as you know, it's packaged and microwave, so...
Here's the real deal - Taste Test

By the presentation, it was pretty appealing. There were some seafood and meat. After we microwaved it, each grain of rice was clearly cooked on point. Not soggy nor dried. It is surprisingly good! INCREÍBLE. The shrimp got its flavor soaked in the rice but itself, not much meat in it, as expected. The squid tasted just like those you would have in a restaurant. It was tender and flavorful, same for the chicken. Altogether was a great combination. What a notably decent convenience store meal!
Besides, it was not a small plate, you can get satiated just eating this alone. However, we are not normal human beings, our appetite is bigger than others so we had cup noodles too haha.
The other day when we stayed in Seville, we tried other types of microwave paella too. As I remember, one should be a squid ink paella, the other one was a risotto. The sauce of both plates were a bit thick. The squid ink one was pretty salty too. If you never try, you'll never know, right? Overall, the paella mixta was the best.
What's for dessert? We bought a pack of light chocolate mousse from the same supermarket. Tasted like chocolate mouse haha, creamy and light. It's a nice end for the night.
It is a usual routine to visit convenience stores in Asian countries, like Tokyo and Taiwan. The food there are sensational. This is the first time for me to try it in an European country. It was such an exciting, fun and budget-friendly experience. All the travellers should definitely give it a go!
