I spent 3 days in Berlin, the first day I used for settling down. Therefore, the itinerary will start in Day 2. Like most of my travel, I walked from place to place from the hostel. I strongly suggest doing walking in the city to explore more! As I also discovered special places on the way or realised that this spot was actually close to that spot which I should plan them on the same day. So, after my trip there, the following itinerary suggests the best route to visit Berlin. Let's go straight to the detailed itinerary!

Day 1:

Platz der Republik Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe Brandenburg Gate Bebelplatz Alexanderplatz

The day will start by going to Platz der Republik, located in Großer Tiergarten, Berlin's largest & oldest park. If you feel like a morning walk, definitely recommend walking and then visit the square. Then, 12 minutes away from the square, we will walk to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. There is an underground exhibition room about the history. It will probably take you 2 hours visiting there.

Off to the next place! 7 minutes walk to Brandenburg Gate, Berlin's most famous landmark. It is a symbol of Berlin and German division during the Cold War, now it has become a national symbol of peace and unity. Then, walking along Unter den Linden, you will find many restaurants and souvenir shops. You can basically shop till you drop. Soon you will arrive at Bebelplatz, a public square with a memorial to Nazi book burning. [wiki]

You can visit Berlin State Opera, St. Hedwig's Cathedral, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Neue Wache which are surrounding the square. It can probably take you half day to visit them all.

Finally, to finish the day at Alexanderplatz, a large public square and transport hub in the central Mitte district of Berlin. [wiki] There are shopping malls and tons of restaurants. You may bump into some local markets as well. Enjoy a glass of beer and german food, or get a Doner kebab and enjoy the rest of the night.

Day 2:

Berlin Wall Memorial Berlin Cathedral East Side Gallery

As for day 2, it will be a day to learn more about German history. First stop, Berlin Wall Memorial. There are exhibitions outdoor and indoor. Bernauer Street is where the Berlin Wall was built along so you can see the demolished wall and the pieces left behind. In the documentation centre, you can read about the initiation of building the wall, the people and conflicts involved, the revolution etc. I spent approximately 1.5 hours there.

Next, Berlin Cathedral, such a magnificent piece of art. Depends on whether you like day view or night view, I reckon both should be beautiful. We went there on our second day at around 6 pm but it closed at 7 pm. It was too late and not enough time for us to visit. We went back on the next day and visit it in the afternoon. € 7 for adults. You can appreciate the arts and the history of the cathedral. Not only that, you can climb up to the top of the dom and see the breathtaking view of Berlin. It totally worths it. I bet it would be great to see sunset up there.

Finally, the famous East Side Gallery. The celebration of the fall of Berlin Wall with signature graffiti. Take your time appreciating how the wall used to block away people of two sides but now the victory of freedom.

At last,

I hope you find this itinerary useful. I am sure there are more to discover. Berlin is a city with a lot of history. I really like the atmosphere in Berlin, people are genuine and simple. I think I will come back and get to know more about this place thoroughly.
