Food can unite people. I think we all agree to that. When you first land in Amsterdam, and ready to immerse yourself into the local food. Albert Cuyp Market is a must without a doubt.

We woke up very early that morning to catch the time when it's not raining. Most shops were not yet open, so my advice to you is don't get there too early, around 12pm would be good. Then you can enjoy visiting all the shops and feel the atmosphere there.
Are you ready for the food tour?
1. Poffertjes

Just normal mini pancakes? No, no, no.

This will be the most surprising pancakes you will ever have in your life! He made it on the spot as we ordered. You can see he uses a specific machine to squeeze the batter on the pan which reminds me of the one that used to make takoyaki. That way he can make multiples poffertjes at the same time!

Then, he put a butter on the plate, it melted when the hot, freshly-made poffertjes got put on top. Next, powder sugar sprinkled on top. If you like more flavor, you can add syrup as topping, which we did.
Price: €3 per serving, €0.5 for each topping
Time to taste! We didn't have much expectation for it but it wow us! It is chewy, but somehow melts in your mouth and it warms your heart in the cold weather. It's perfect. This is the no.1 food you must try in Albert Cuyp Market.

2. Stroopwafels

Stroopwafles is known as a popular food/snack in Holland. You can find the packaged ones in supermarket or get the fresh ones here in Albert Cuyp Market.

The owner handles it all by himself. He prepared the dough beforehand. Roll it into small balls and flatten it in the waffle iron.
It is hot and crispy on the outside, sweet and chewy on the inside. Tasty.
Price: €1.5 (original size), €3.5 (The Superstrooper)
3. Dutch Raw Herring

Yes, raw fish. I'm sorry if you don't eat raw seafood but if you do, you should definitely try it.

The texture of the fish is bouncy. You can taste the freshness, like it has just come out of the sea. It is a bit salty and smoky. That's why it serves with pickles and onion to complement it.
Price: €2.5
4. Gözleme

Gözleme is a traditional Turkish flatbread. Yes, it's not holandese but it's worth trying too. With the fillings like spinach and feta cheese in it, and the char on the bread, perfecto. It can be an easy-to-go lunch as well as it's quite filling.
Price: depends on what fillings you like (see down below)

There are more...
Sadly we couldn't try all the delicious food in the market and I am sure there are more than I have introduced. However, then you have another reason to visit the city again, right? ;)
Let me know which one is your favourite and what you recommend if you have visited there! Hasta luego!
I also have a video up of the food tour on YouTube. Check it out here!
